Tuim Chasm

Tuim chasm is a unique place in Khakasia. However it is not natural but artificial. This rock canyon with impregnated ore of black and green colors – copper and molybdenum – is about one kilometer in circumference!

The height of opposite bluff is one hundred meters. With a tree on the top it seems even more immense than it really is. This view is so exciting that you’ll never forget it. There are many acute-angled stones in the size of a car at the bottom of the chasm. And the mysterious dark lake is in the centre of it. The lake is about 500 meters in length and 300 meters in width. When the sun is shining water is changing its color to emerald green immediately. Copper ore gives this tint to water. Nobody knows the real depth of this lake. The sense of danger intensifies impressions and visual sensations of these charms.

The rock numbers nine black holes in its circle. They are the stulms of a former mine. This seems very small from here, but in truth it used to contain underground electric locomotive with six bogies. A long time ago there was a mine “Kiyalih-Uzen” here formerly. It was situated in 20 kilometers far from region center Shira. They used to mine cooper and molybdenum concentrates here in 1950’s. And now people don’t even know why this mine fell, whether it was an explosion or some other natural reasons. Today tourists who come to visit Shira region, will certainly visit Tuim chasm.

Especially it looks gorgeous in autumn, surrounded by varicolored forest…
